Do not react, act

Alexander Doll possesses decades worth of experience as an expert for finance. Amongst other occupations, he was a member of the Board of Directors at Deutsche Bahn AG, where he led the finance department. Find out what role digitization can play in German companies in the following interview.

Why would you advise the Mittelstand to implement ERP-systems?

Alexander Doll: “An ERP-System can secure the financial viability of a company due to the gained time and reduced cost. Processes can be accelerated through a company-wide basis for data. Reports and reportings become more transparent and therefore challenges easier to identify. In short: An ERP-system sets up a company to act, not to only react.”

Mr. Doll, what role will artifical intelligence (AI) play in the areas of planning and controlling in the coming years?

Alexander Doll: “Herein lies great potential for financial and data-analysis. One of the great possibilities of AI in the area of finance is the rapid prediction and planning of different scenarios. Even if companies are still hesitant concerning the use of AI today – the utilization of AI will significantly change the ERP-landscape in the near future.”

You are consultant and expert for finance, where do you see the largest potential for optimization in that area?

Alexander Doll: “The centralized processing of financial data in digitized form leads to increased transparency and thus to better corporate management. Through a company-wide management system, the unreliable and therefore mistake-prone gathering of data becomes obsolete. Additionally, uniform reports and analysis facilitate processes transcending departments."
